What exactly is tiling? I've never heard that expression before. But whatever it is, it sure results in some cool painting!
Also, I love the pic of the mural you did. How many days did that take you, if i may ask? Great work!

To answer your two questions...
1. Tiling is when you block in the colors (or in this case, black&white values) right up next to, and on top of, each other with gouache and then with clean water on your brush blend them togethr to give it a more seamless look. (that's the cliff note version of tiling)
2. The girls' bedroom mural took me a good 100-150 hours from start to finish. I spent 8 to 11 hours painting each day for over about 18 days.
